Presidents Grants Program

The Presidents Grants Program was established by The Falconry Fund Board to acknowledge the leadership role played by the organization’s first three Presidents:  Matt Mullenix (Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA), Alan Ayers (Chester, Maryland, USA), and Mark Adam (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada).  Matt Mullenix was instrumental in formalizing the charitable status of the organization, and set in place the fundamental tenets by which the non-profit would operate.  Alan Ayers ensured the Falconry Fund was well-positioned to accept end-of-life gifts, and continues to advise the Board and, when needed, the falconry community on benefactor giving. Mark Adam has worked to refine the specific role that the organization will play for the foreseeable future; namely to solicit, steward, and distribute funds for falconry-centric projects. All three have helped grow the organization from what was just a good idea proposed by NAFA leadership to what it is today, an organization possessing the required infrastructure to support the right to practice the cultural heritage of falconry for the indefinite future.

Periodically the Falconry Fund Board will select a project that the board feels strongly should be supported. These projects may be solely funded by The Falconry Fund, or may be done in partnership with other organizations. In addition to funding unique projects, a second objective of The Presidents Grant program is to supplement awardees of the NAFA Small Grant program.

This first-ever project to be funded as part of The Presidents Grants Program involved partnering with renowned wildlife sculptor and falconer, Jeremy Bradshaw, to undertake joint fundraising efforts with The Archives of Falconry. The Falconry Fund acquired “Surf Skimmer” from Jeremy Bradshaw, and donated the sculpture to the Archives of Falconry to be used as part of an upcoming funding campaign.
